This Week's Writing Workshop for Parents by Jill Hawes was a HUGE Success!
Thanks to Jill Hawes, our very own Foundation Funded Literacy Consultant, three parent writing workshops took place this week in the Learning Commons. Over 95 Mt. Bethel parents attended the workshops that took place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week by grade level! Ms. Hawes covered what writing workshop is and what it looks like for students in their classrooms. The parents that attended were amazed at how writing is now taught to their students!! There are no outlines, introductory paragraphs or thesis statements taught to students anymore.. instead, there are stages of writing, creative thought processes and self-editing!
Ms. Hawes plans to hold two more Parent Education sessions this Winter! The next session will cover Reader's Workshop and will be held on November 8th. K-1 will be from 8:30-9:30am, 2nd and 3rd grades will be from 9:45-10:45am and 4th and 5th grades will be from 11:00-12:00 in the Learning Commons. The final Parent Workshop for this winter is on Family Book Clubs and will be held on January 8th from 9:00-10:00am for all grade levels.
You don't want to miss out on these very informative and helpful sessions! They will give you a greater understanding of how to help your students at home and also how they are evaluated and graded on these topics!
